Cucumis melo

An Armenian heirloom variety that was introduced into Italy in the 1400s. Armenian Dark Green is a superb melon masquerading as a cucumber, heavy producers of beautiful, scalloped fruits that are best picked at around 25-30 cm, they will however turn into miniature submarines if you leave them too long. The skin is not bitter and can be used as is, no need to peel.

I bought these at almost the end of the season upon the recommendation of someone in the LivingSeeds Facebook group and I love them. Not to everyone in the household's taste, but that means I get to munch on them more. Easy grower, less difficult than I've experienced some other cucumbers to be.

We love these "fake" cucumbers - they really do get HUGE (seemingly overnight!) but without becoming bitter. They were also last to fall prey to pumpkin fly (I'm not sure why - maybe because they're so fuzzy when the fruits are young??)
