The Bahamian Goat is a pepper of bold character and unmistakable charm, originating from the sun-drenched islands of the Bahamas. It was selected and saved by local growers for its consistent performance, outstanding flavour and beautiful colouring, making it one of the Caribbean’s most recognisable chilli varieties. Its pods are rounded and deeply ribbed, often resembling miniature pumpkins, with a peach-to-orange colouring and the occasional pointed tail. It is celebrated for both its eye-catching appearance and its dependable growth in tropical and temperate gardens alike.

With heat levels between 100,000 and 350,000 Scoville units, the Bahamian Goat delivers a strong, habanero-level kick accompanied by a standout flavour. It offers bright, fruity notes with a clear citrus profile, often described as lemony and floral. This makes it an excellent choice for hot sauces, tropical salsas, marinades, and other Caribbean dishes where flavour is just as important as heat.

Start seeds indoors 8 to 10 weeks before your last frost date. Sow them no deeper than 5 mm in a fine, well-draining germination mix and keep the soil temperature between 26 and 30 °C. A Germination Heating pad will greatly assist with faster and more even germination, which generally occurs within ten to twenty-one days but can take up to four weeks. Keep the soil evenly moist with consistent warmth and humidity for the best results.

Once the seedlings are well established, transplant them into full sun after any risk of frost has passed. Bahamian Goat peppers grow into bushy, vigorous plants reaching between 60 and 120 cm in height. They do well in fertile, well-drained soil and benefit from good air circulation to prevent fungal diseases. Pods ripen about 90-120 days after transplant, turning a soft peach-orange colour when ready for harvest. These peppers bring outstanding flavour and vibrant heat to the garden and the kitchen.
