Veldfire Cosmos is a dazzling annual flower that brings warmth and vibrancy to any summer garden. While commonly associated with dwarf strains, the variety offered by Livingseeds is a tall-growing selection, reaching heights of 90 cm to over 1 m. This South African favourite bears bright blooms in flaming shades of orange, gold, red and lemon, offering a true veldfire colour palette that lives up to its name.

The flowers are a magnet for pollinators and produce generously throughout the season. They make superb cut flowers and add bold highlights to borders, wildflower patches and mixed plantings. The blooms are long-lasting and continue well into early autumn, especially when regularly deadheaded.

Sow Veldfire Cosmos after the last frost in full sun. Seeds should be planted 5 mm deep and spaced about 25cm apart in well-drained soil. Germination takes place within 7 to 14 days at temperatures around 20 to 25 °C. Once established, the plants are drought-tolerant and thrive with minimal input, making them ideal for low-maintenance or water-wise gardens.

These tall cosmos benefit from light staking or being planted among other structural plants for natural support. While tolerant of poorer soils, flowering improves with occasional feeding. Plants can self-seed if not deadheaded at the end of the season, providing a welcome return the following year.
