Anethum graveolens

Dill Etherio is a refined, aromatic cultivar distinguished by its fine, feathery foliage and impressively high essential-oil content. Selected specifically for professional oil extraction, this variety stands out not only for its fragrance but also for its elegant growth habit. Originally developed for the distillation industry, it has found a well-deserved place in South African herb gardens where intense flavour and oil yield are priorities.

Both the leaf and seed of Dill Etherio carry the classic sweet-anise profile of dill, with deeper complexity ideal for culinary and therapeutic use. Its foliage is particularly tender and aromatic, making it excellent for garnishes, pickles, sauces, and infusions. When left to flower, the heads produce viable seed that is also suitable for culinary and medicinal purposes. Due to its concentration of aromatic compounds, Dill Etherio is frequently chosen for herbal teas, digestive tonics, and steam distillation for essential-oil production.

Sow seed directly into prepared soil at a depth of 3 mm, spacing plants about 10–15 cm apart. Dill Etherio prefers full sun and germinates in 7 to 21 days at soil temperatures between 13 and 24 °C. It is not suitable for transplanting, so direct sowing is recommended. Keep soil evenly moist until seedlings are established.

Plants grow to around 80 cm in height and can be harvested over several weeks. Begin snipping leaves from 45 days onward, or allow the plants to mature fully by 110 days to collect both foliage and seed. For oil extraction, harvest leaves when they are young and fragrant, ideally just before flowering begins.
