Dreamcatcher chilli is a striking ornamental variety, loved for its richly variegated foliage and vibrant fruit display. This is a modern OP cultivar that has gained popularity in pepper growing communities. The plant's compact growth habit and tri-coloured leaves, in deep purple, green and cream, make it an eye-catching feature in containers or decorative beds. Its fruit develops upright and shifts through a stunning spectrum of purple, yellow, orange and red as it matures.

While primarily grown for its beauty, Dreamcatcher chilli offers more than just good looks. The slender, 5 - 8cm pods have a medium heat level, usually around 30,000 Scoville Heat Units, making them ideal for fresh salsas, infused oils or as a vibrant garnish. The flavour has gentle fruit notes with a mild sweetness, offering warmth without overwhelming the palate.

Sow Dreamcatcher seeds indoors 8 to 10 weeks before your last frost. Seeds should be sown 5mm deep in a fine Germination Mix and placed on a Germination Heating Pad at 26 to 30°C. Germination usually occurs within 10 to 21 days. Light is essential once germinated, so position seedlings in a well lit position or under grow lights to prevent legginess.

Once the danger of frost has passed and plants are at least 10cm tall, harden them off and transplant into full sun. Dreamcatcher chilli prefers well-drained soil enriched with compost. Keep the soil evenly moist but not soggy. This variety produces prolifically throughout summer into early autumn, with fruit ready to harvest once it reaches full red maturity. For a continuous show, harvest regularly to encourage more flowering.
