Flowers

Livingseeds is excited to release a flower range again this year. In the past, we were often asked to stock flower seeds and were reluctant to do so as we felt it was not our core focus. However, as flowers do play a very large role in the veggie garden, we since decided to release a selection of flower seeds that focus on edible flowers and varieties that are important food sources for pollinators.

We have 2 types of flowers on offer: 1) the pollinator range, comprising pollinator-attracting varieties and 2) the edible flower range. All edible flowers are also pollinator attractors; however, not all pollinator flowers are edible. Where the flower/herb has an edible flower, it will be noted.

These flowers will do a few things in your garden. First, they will attract various beneficial insects and pollinators to your garden, and secondly, you will have a whole “bunch” of edible flowers to add to your meals. Many predatory insects like wasps and hornets will feed on pollen and nectar to keep them going, while catching pests to feed to their offspring. Flowers will bring them to your garden, and they will make short work of your pests.

Having pollinators like honeybees and solitary bees around will only improve your harvests, as many fruits will not set if they are not properly pollinated. Planting added sources of food for pollinators in the garden will increase your yields, plus you are feeding the "good guys" naturally.
