Phaseolus vulgaris

Gourmet Delight is a standout Australian heirloom bush bean that has earned a strong following among gardeners for its impressive yield and exceptional eating quality. This determinate variety grows into a compact bush reaching 45 to 60 cm tall and produces abundant, straight green pods up to 15 cm in length. It is a well-established variety in South Africa, appreciated for its adaptability and reliable performance across a range of growing conditions.

The pods are stringless, sweet and tender with a pleasing crunch that makes them ideal for fresh eating, light steaming or quick stir-frying. Their texture holds well when frozen, making Gourmet Delight a top choice for preserving a high-quality bean harvest. It is particularly well-suited to successive plantings, offering gardeners an extended supply throughout the growing season.

Sow seeds directly into well-drained, fertile soil after the last frost. Plant 2 to 3 cm deep, spacing seeds 10 to 15 cm apart in rows about 40 cm wide. Germination typically occurs within 7 to 14 days at soil temperatures between 18 and 24°C. Do not pre-soak seeds, especially in cool or moist soils.

Although this is a bush variety, it benefits from light feeding and occasional support to keep the heavily laden pods off the ground. Plants begin producing in approximately 55 to 60 days, depending on location and season. For continuous harvests, stagger sowings every few weeks.

To enhance growth and maximise yield, treat seeds with SoyGro Beanflo before sowing. This microbial inoculant improves nitrogen fixation and plant health, especially in soils that haven’t recently supported legume crops.

Standard packet contains approx. 25 seeds
Petite packet contains approx. 10 seeds

Using Beanflo-Rhizobium bacteria when planting your bean seed is the most cost effective way of putting nitrogen fixing bacteria into your soil, creating healthier soil for a more productive harvest.
