Highveld Storm is a striking open pollinated tomato developed by Livingseeds. This variety is celebrated for its vivid colouring and tangy-sweet flavour. The dark shoulders make us think of dark storm clouds at sunset. With its complex skin pattern and metallic anthocyanin-purple striping, it has earned a top favourite position amongst the Livingseeds Staff. We are really excited to share this superb locally bred variety.

The flavour is bright and surprisingly layered, with a gentle tartness and subtle citrus notes that make it ideal for fresh eating, slicing, and colourful salads. Each tomato weighs between 50 and 180 grams, with excellent crack resistance and a firm texture that allows for reliable storage and transport.

Start seeds indoors from late winter, about 6 to 8 weeks before your last frost date. Sow 5 mm deep into a light, well-drained germination mix and keep soil temperatures between 22 and 25 °C. Use bottom heat to encourage uniform germination, and provide bright overhead light to avoid legginess. Harden seedlings off before transplanting.

Once the danger of frost has passed, transplant seedlings into full sun, spacing plants 60 cm apart in nutrient-rich, composted soil. Kryptonite is an indeterminate variety and will continue setting fruit throughout the season. Provide strong staking or caging to support the vigorous vines. Expect fruit maturity between 65 and 80 days after transplanting. Harvest when the fruit develops its signature dark shoulder and feels slightly soft to the touch.
