Cucumis sativus

Available for purchase from 1 July 2025

The Mini White Pickle, is a compact heirloom variety celebrated for its creamy-white skin and petite, oval-shaped fruits. With its bushy growth habit, it is ideally suited for container gardening or limited-space beds. Bred for high productivity and early maturity, this cucumber delivers a reliable harvest of sweet, crisp fruit with thin, tender skins—perfect for pickling or fresh snacking.

These small cucumbers are best enjoyed at about 7 cm long, when their flavour is at its peak and texture firm and juicy. Their mild taste and delicate crunch make them a favourite in summer salads, sandwich slices, and traditional South African pickles. The creamy skin also adds a unique visual contrast to mixed vegetable dishes.

Sow seeds indoors 4–6 weeks before your last frost using the Livingseeds Germination Mix, and maintain consistent warmth with Livingseeds Heating Pads. Plant seeds 1.5 cm deep and keep temperatures between 21–29°C. For best results, start seedlings in biodegradable cells using the potmaker or plugmaster. Germination typically occurs in 7–14 days.

Transplant into rich, well-drained soil after the danger of frost has passed. Space plants 30–45 cm apart in rows 90–120 cm apart. Although bush-like, a low trellis can support airflow and ease harvesting. Feed with Talborne Organics VitaGrow at transplant and switch to Vita Fruit and Flower during flowering. Fruits mature in approximately 50–55 days, with regular picking encouraging ongoing production.
