Solanum tuberosum

The Innovator potato is a modern cultivar developed in the Netherlands by HZPC and officially released in 2004. This variety is a cross between Shepody and RZ-84-2580 and has gained favour globally for its consistent performance and top-quality tubers. It is a medium-early maturing type, well adapted to both commercial and home garden production.

Innovator is prized in kitchens for its versatility. Its pale yellow flesh and firm, dry texture make it an ideal choice for baking, boiling, and frying. It holds its shape well, making it excellent for potato salads and oven chips, and delivers a satisfyingly crisp texture when fried.

Livingseeds supplies plant-ready tubers that do not require chitting. Simply plant them directly into soil that has warmed to at least 10 °C. Position each tuber at a depth of 10–15 cm with 30 cm between tubers and 75 cm between rows for healthy development and ease of harvest.

Cultivation is straightforward. Innovator prefers fertile, loose soil with good drainage and benefits from consistent moisture, especially during tuber formation. Plants reach maturity approximately 90–110 days after planting. Tubers are long-oval with shallow eyes and a russet skin that resists damage, making them suitable for extended storage. Harvest when plants begin to die back and skins are firm. Cure for 10–14 days in a dark, well-ventilated space before storing.
