Daucus carota

All-America Selections winner from 1992! Stunning little, round, orange carrots that are best harvested from 50-70 days when no larger than golf ball sized. A particularly good producer that is easy to grow and requires little maintenance. These gourmet carrots have a sweet flavour and small core. Makes a perfect addition to a lunch box, as a snack, popped whole into a stew or casserole or roasted whole with a little olive oil and rosemary.

Cute and easy to grow. But next time I'll just grow a regular variety like Nantes.

The great: Small, super sweet and perfect for lunch boxes, as long as the kids don't eat them before they get into the kitchen. Germinate and generally grow easily. The not so great: They take up the same amount of real estate than bigger carrots, so if you are trying to produce the max kg/sqm these are not for you. I will continue to grow these, in combination with something bigger like Nantes for general cooking.
