Aktinos is a standout performer in the Soygro biological range, offering versatile protection for seedlings and roots across a variety of crops including maize, wheat, lucerne, drybeans, tomatoes, peppers and soybeans. This microbial seed and soil treatment is formulated to suppress common soil-borne pathogens like Fusarium, Pythium, and Rhizoctonia. Hardy and adaptable, Aktinos delivers reliable disease suppression in variable pH and temperature conditions.

The mode of action of Aktinos centres on its spore-forming, filamentous bacteria. These bacteria generate hyphae that form a complex mycelium, biologically competing with pathogens for space and nutrients. They secrete natural “plant antibiotics” that reduce pathogen load while enhancing plant resistance. Notably, the presence of Streptomyces can inhibit disease progression throughout the plant’s growing cycle, acting preventatively and suppressively. This product is best used preventatively prior to any disease showing. On Livingseeds Farm we will treat our seedlings prior to transplant to give them the best possible protection.

Application of Aktinos is very simple. Aktinos is a set of three vial that each contain a different strain, these need to be applied together, at the same time. Mix all three vials into 5 liters of water and drench the soil.

Continued use of Aktinos promotes vigorous root growth, improves plant immunity, and enhances vegetative development. It integrates seamlessly with other Soygro inoculants and biological products, offering a sustainable, preventative strategy against a spectrum of diseases in diverse South African farming systems.
