Florida Green Cotton is an heirloom cotton variety grown for its naturally green fibres and attractive red-tinged foliage. The lint ranges in tone from soft light green to a more muted blue-green, making it especially appealing to spinners and fibre artists seeking undyed natural colour. While originally developed in the southeastern United States, it is now grown around the world by gardeners looking for both ornamental value and usable fibre.

The cotton has a long history of use in traditional textiles and small-scale oil production. Its seeds can yield up to forty percent oil, which is nearly odourless and rich in omega-6 and vitamin E. This oil has been used in beauty products and leather work, and also has a background in traditional medicinal systems including Ayurveda.

Seed should be started indoors, on a Livingseeds Germination Pad to ensure good growth before transplanting. Plant seeds about 6 mm deep in well-draining soil. Once established, plants need regular but moderate watering. Transplant into full sun, spacing plants at least 1.5 metres apart to allow for airflow and root spread. Germination usually takes between 7 and 21 days under warm conditions.

Florida Green Cotton typically grows between 150 and 200 centimetres tall. It requires a long, warm growing season of approximately 120 to 135 days.

This variety is generally easy to grow, with good adaptability to warm conditions and modest resistance to common cotton pests.
