Cucumis sativus
A very well known cucumber in the southern islands of Japan. The seeds have been passed down through many generations of an old family from Beppu City on Kyushu island.
This cucumber has an exceptional flavour and a thin skin with none of the usual bitterness. Best eaten fresh to appreciate the tender, yet crisp bite. This variety does not pickle well as it tends to soften, losing its crisp texture.
A great variety to grow if you live in humid climates as it has good resistance to powdery mildew and fungal infections. A vigorous grower and producer that benefits from being trellised. Handles both drought and excessive rain exceptionally well.
