• Tyson Seed Potatoes

Solanum tuberosum

The Tyson potato is a standout medium-late variety well suited to South African gardens. Known for its tall, upright plants and crisp white blossoms, it produces a generous canopy that supports an abundant crop. Tyson offers both aesthetic appeal in the garden and dependable performance in the ground, making it a firm favourite for home growers seeking a reliable all-rounder.

In the kitchen, Tyson is impressively versatile. It performs beautifully across the board, whether you're boiling, mashing, roasting or baking. Its firm texture holds up especially well for baby potatoes and roast dishes, offering a satisfying mouthfeel and excellent flavour. With a good dry matter content, it strikes the right balance between creaminess and structure.

Livingseeds supplies plant-ready tubers, so there is no need for chitting. Simply plant directly into well-prepared soil at a depth of 10–15 cm, spaced 30 cm apart in rows 75 cm wide. Ensure the soil is warm, at least 10 °C, and well drained. Expect the plants to reach maturity in about 90 to 100 days depending on local conditions.

Tyson is notably resilient in the field. It shows good resistance to scab and bruising, ensuring a clean, top quality harvest. The tubers store well, retaining their quality long after harvest, which makes it a great choice for staggered use throughout the season.
