Cucurbita pepo

Caserta Marrows are a highly productive marrow. Tasty eaten young even before the flower has opened, if left for just a few days longer the taste expands. These marrows grow so fast you could almost grow a traditional weapon in a week. We much prefer them about 30-40 cm long, hollowed out, stuffed with spinach and feta or mince and baked.

Standard packet contains approx. 15 seeds

Prolific producer. Tasty. Easy to grow. Takes up some space as it grows though so plan ahead.

Loving these marrows, only planted two and its been plenty for just two of us-been eating marrows almost daily from November through to February. Once they start going, man do they produce. I have never known so many receipes existed to use the bounty of marrows I yielded this year.
They have also been pretty easy to grow, only needed some hand pollination when we had long spells of rainy days and no signs of bees.
They do need a bit of space if growing in the ground, the trunk/stem got well over a meter in length.
I definitely want to try growing these vertically next year.

Brilliant! Wow! Super producer. Keep picking or you'll end up with elephant trunks! (if you do - they make a delicious soup with some coconut milk and thai yellow curry paste).

I'll second that these need a lot of space... they form a large upright bush (i.e. don't need trellising). Maybe need 1m by 1m. You'll also need to thin out their huge leaves.
I've also found they are very resistant to mildew, which a lot of other marrows fall prey too.
Rather pick when younger and still small, if you leave too long they tend to go slightly hollow, then work best chopped into stir fries/stews.

I've found that Caserta has the ability to outgrow powdery mildew without intervention.... a big plus. Yield is also incredible.
