Daucus carota

Brilliant heirloom carrot grown since the early 1900s, named after the French city Nantes. A real stunner as far as carrots go, produces long, evenly cylindrical roots that have a blunt end and good root shear. Has a lovely sweet, earthy, typical carrot flavour and does not possess much of a core. They do great in soups, carrot cake and even juicing. This is a constant favourite in our home. Carrots typically do not over-ripen, so they will be just fine being stored in the ground, just be sure to harvest them before any heat sets in to prevent bolting which will render the carrrots corky and inedible.

Nantes is our go-to variety in our wet, clay George soil. Most other varieties just don't cope, or break in our ground when trying to harvest. If you want a reliable carrot harvest that keeps well, give Nantes a try.

Easy to grow (even for a novice gardener like me) Very tasty and it's great to be able to pull fresh carrots out the ground when you need them, instead of having a stash of veg getting old in the fridge.
